How to cope with “growing pains” during pregnancy like Kim Kardashian

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has recently confirmed her pregnancy and has said that being pregnancy with rapper Kanye West’s baby takes some getting used yo because of the “growing pains”.

And she’s not alone! The focus during pregnancy tends to be on morning sickness, but as pregnancy progresses, every mum-to-be’s weight and shape can affect the muscles in their back, shoulders and pelvis.

Added to that, the pregnancy hormones that are released into her body naturally act on the ligaments between a pregnant woman’s pelvic bones, making them more elastic. This is good for giving birth, but during pregnancy when women characteristically gain more weight than usual it can cause aches in the lower and upper back, the pelvis and the vulva.

Stand tall, sit straight
It’s important can help a bit with attention to posture – a straight back when sitting down sounds trivial but it can actually make a huge difference, especially if your work is desk based. Also, be careful when bending – always bend at the knees when you have to lift something off the ground.

Stilettos aren’t cool
It’s amazing to see pregnancy celebs in their third trimester gliding across the red carpet in six-inch heels looking like they did before baby. But how long do you think that lasts once they are seated at the premieres or in their chauffeur driven cars?

Us mere mortals just don’t have that luxury, so it really isn’t worth the pain – or embarrassment/danger that tripping can cause.

Wear the shoes that feel comfortable for you – traditional advice was to wear slight heels or wedges, but the best thing is simply to choose the footwear that feels good for you that is sensible! Pumps, kitten heels and low wedges are still on trend and you won’t look ridiculous waddling in sensible shoes!

A bit of exercise can go a long way
Moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, or swimming, is also helpful but if you’re not usually active, speak with your doctor or midwife beforehand to get the all clear.

Ask your midwife or antenatal teacher about exercises that relieve back and pelvic pain – routines like getting on all fours and rocking, or using a birth ball can be very comfortable and bring some respite to growing pains.

Bump support
As your bump gets bigger, there is no guarantee that the pain will improve. It also depends on whaler your baby likes to rest – and there really isn’t all that much you can do about it.
